My V8 overcools on a run simply after taking off the factory bumpers and exposing more of the rad. Couple this with open air induction and she is hard to keep hot in cold weather.

mmmmmmm
blocked off the bypass,
temp at idle 82-84C (82C stat fitted cooling fans on-off)
run down bypass water temp drops to 64C

Fitted 88C stat, idle temp 87-89C (cooling fans on-off)
run down bypass 71-72C.

it looks like the system is too effiecient when the air is going through the rad

another thing different this time is im running an oil cooler,
would this be aiding the over cooling on a run?

Is it ok to run with cool oil? If your engine is running that low Tony do you need the cooler or would it be better running at proper temp?

Tony,

Next time you run it check the oil cooler by hand to see if it's warm/hot in case the oil stat isn't closing, if it's warm tapeover the fins with some racer tape.

Re the rad, do the old fashioned thing and try blanking off part of it with cardboard and see if you can get a stable temperature.

Have you checked with another source that the temps you are reading are actually correct and the sensor is not giving false information.

What size rad are you using?

Is this the same cooling system you had with the 3.9 as it seems odd it is now running cooler?

How does the Bypass work, is it Bypassing the Rad. If so you would think it would get cooler with it blocked off as more water is being passed by the Rad.

This is from Rave

In our case the oilcooler (16 row with stat) did help...........during heavy traffic jams (35 degrees C outside at the London ring) but otherwise ehhhhhhhhh no. Normaly no difference at all.
Looks like your stat is fauling or your readings aint correct.

think we may of found the steering judder fault around 50-60mph while light braking. (not as fierce while heavy braking,)
fitted a new power rack today and tested judder still there and a as violent, which indicates not the rack, (more money wasted)
tested the lower arms, all fine,

so we decided to try a dial gauge on the frotn discs,
we have quite a run out on the drivers side disc
looks like i may of warped one of the 315mm vented front discs fitted to the car in Sept 2008 by caprisport,
Neil and co at caprisport have a spare set of discs we are going to try on the car next weekend,
also going to spin my disc up in there lathe to see if its saveable next weekend too.

hey ho thought things were going to well on the car

had first little hiccup with the car today.
been sweet for last 400 miles,
fired car up tonight to warm up while over the workshop,
sat in there while it came up to temp, walked back over to say bye to every one, there was a loud pop and smoke every where,
ran over and killed ignition, and grabbed the extinguisher out the car, thats when i noticed it smelt of antifreeze,
popped the bonnet and one of the hoses from the inlet manifold had split,
was a second hand bit of pipe we used as every where was out of stock at the time of 3/4 heater hose.

glad that happened then and not on way home on bypass :?

its a 10000 times better mate,
pulls away a lot quicker,
has a slight flat spot mid range but until its run in proper im not going to worry about fiddling just yet,
Brakes not sorted yet, (weather against us)

was thinking about popping the 3.9 back in over the winter cos the 4.6 is too much fun,

I am thinking about selling my spare 3.9 bottom end now,

no fear of that happening mate,
Ian and perry are in a differeny league to me
if i can run 12's next year with no gas i'll be happy.
still would like a charger but i have to be sensible and use the money for the bills first,
fingers crossed i get my 15% back after crimbo as that made a hell of a dent in my wages each month this year.
