I'm reading this with great interest as my car has the exact same symptoms.

I am running a set of lambda sensors and can change the resistor - it all makes very little difference

I had come to the conclusion that the JE bult motor with 102 cam was not meant for the low throttle stuff and just run it higher up the rev range - but holding 1st and 2nd around town (up to 40mph) seems stupid and also does nothing for the temp iside my car,. (Engine at rear rad in the front and hot pipes running through the tunnel near my leg!)

The thought of the vac not working is interesting but I have even tried running with the vac off and plugged and it still kicks like a mule.

See this thread for ideas given before

I know what u mean ian, my 5.0ltr is the same, below 1800rpm kicks like a swine, u hold a higher gear 2 stop it but feel like an idiot around town. Mine is due 2 the mechanical cam i have fitted, mappable ignition is the only way to stop it ive been told from Rob at V8 Dev, my vac advance is disconected and makes no differance, i need 2 redrill and fit the vac take off in the plenum chamber as i reversed the butterflys and it is now on the wrong side of the butterflys.

Hi Demo2

I still think that the simple way out could be the correct one

Bin the Efi and put a carb on. (I know a lot of people think the electronics are the only cure but I've run radical cam engines on carbs and had reasonable results - yes always best at a certain rev range but certainly smoother than this EFi - but out in Africa emissions were never checked! )

But I have a question in that what emmissions can be got with a carb (Webber 500)? Will they meet the 1990 engine requirements for MOT?

I originally had a weber 500 on my engine and emissions werent a problem.

Couple of home adjustments and it was something like 1.2% CO and 300ppm HC.

That is only a 3.5 mind

That sounds very interesting.

So why then did you decide to go for Efi?

Do you still have the Carb and manifold and does it possiblly need a home?

I decided to go efi for a few reasons.

Economy
Tuneability
Possibility of some forced induction at a later date.

Unfortunately I sold the carb and manifold on ebay a little whle ago.

Well, looks like it was a fault with the hotwire ECU in the end.

I got my Vems system back up and running today car runs and drives fine, and will be even better with a bit of tuning.
