Mini starters

Post by hoffbug »

Perry.
What are you using for a starter with your setup?
Im thinking Ill need a good gear reduction mini starter as Im planning a high compression engine and Ill also need as much clearance as possible.

My old low comp (less than8:1) 3500 span over fine with the standard MGB starter. I'm now unsing 9.3:1 4600 and it does tend to show definate fast / slow effect when cranking, but she starts ok.

You can hear it cranking here, when the starter engages that is!

I see Andy got his Buick 215 flexplate on Evilbay.
I just picked one up at one of the local junkyards for myself.

I've actually got an automatic transmission flywheel for an Olds 215. Looks nothing like the Buick 215 one. Like the one on the left.

It also takes a torque converter. I wouldn't call it a flexplate, but, it does the same thing.

That is interesting...

Post by hoffbug »

That is interesting. Maybe the Ebay ad I took the picture from mistakenly called it an Oldsmobile unit.

At any rate the picture is correct for a Buick 215.
