Rover V8 pulley alignment

So does that mean if you had added the oil slasher it would have put your pulleys out by at least 1.5mm. Did you say you are using P6 pulley and P6 pump?

The oil thrower is 1mm thick.

I may be wrong, but I don't think a mm is anything to worry about with pulley alignment. My alternator was shimmed with washers just by eye!

I thought this was a big problem where it was out by a whole belt thickness or something! I reckon a belt could run 5mm out on a RV8 without any damage!! (I'm not saying it should of course!) Shimming by eye is what I have done in the past as well.

Sounds like 1.5mm ish ?

If he has a rubber front seal I wouldnt bother pulling it all apart to fit a thrower ring!

No! I'm saying that not having the oil thrower ring hasnt made a difference worth worrying about. I've fitted the rubber conversion seal to my pre SD1 cover and its not leaking. I use the original MGB V8 pre SD1 front cover and pump. If I put my laser aligner on the pulleys it would show the error I guess. But as its so small I havent bothered.

Especially as the thrower isn't fitted with the lipseal.

The later covers (Rubber seal type) have an eyebrow inside over the seal which would foul on the oil thrower

Well if you look at this picture http://s144.photobucket.com/user/markwi ... ies2a%20V8 It looks pretty near to 5mm. I'm obviously being over fussy, but it seems a shame to do a rebuild and not get everything spot on. Surely Rover wouldn't have had the belts out of alignment?, but then again it is Rover

Having said that, LandyV8 did say he had also tried a buick pump and had the same misalignment.

My pulley almost touches the inlet. And Landy's does not ?? Worth a try eh ??

My pulley almost touches the inlet. And Landy's does not ?? Worth a try eh ??

The buick pulley is a one piece, can only go on one way. It has the same dimensions and clearances as the P6 pump but more room between radiator and pump nose. See here http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r190 ... hs4111.jpg
