Ged the mail i recieved today from AP.
CP2394-60 pressure plate in the Ø9.5" uprated special tuning range is rated to 350lbft torque.

The next option as a direct replacement to the -60 is:-

CP2394-46 rated to 522lbft torque.

We would recommend using a paddle plate with this unit because an organic plate can cause clutch drag. Also note that the Ø9.5" spring centre driven plates have a torque capacity on the spring centre of 350lbft, so if the installation has more power than that it is recommended that a rigid centre plate is used.

However this set up of high clamp cover and rigid centre cerametalic driven plate would be considered harsh for road applications!

Current driven plate

CP2346-4 organic / spring centre driven plate (1"x23T spline)

Alternative

CP4216-4 6 paddle / spring centre driven plate (1"x23T spline)

Alternative

CP4196-5 6 paddle / rigid centre driven plate (1"x23T spline)

Dave how much was the helix? is it a 9.5 or 10.5 clutch?

I don't remember exactly how much the Helix was. £250 to £300 springs to mind, but I tend to not look too much at the bills for the TVR otherwise I'd get upset! It's a standard fit, so I assume 9.5".

I too am using the 'V8 dev' spec Helix clutch.
It's interesting the manufacturing marks have been carefully linished off the clutch cover and a helix sticker stuck on! so looks like they use/modify someone elses cover plate?
A couple points I noted were the friction plate had less compression than the standard AP clutch I replaced which will reduce feel but improve torque capacity and the fingers also had additional springs to obviously increase clamp load.
Image
Can't comment on how it performs in anger as i've only done 30 miles 'running in', seems fine a little heavier and a little more aggressive on take up. I should add my car weights 700kg. I was told by V8 dev that it was the same clutch used by tvr tuscan race cars?

A good point that often is overlooked, If you have a car that weighs bugger all, the clutch will handle as much torque as you can throw at it, start adding weight to the car and the ability to handle that torque diminishes--- How do clutch companies say their clutch will handle X amount of torque with the omission of weight or gear ratios in that statement, this is not a dig at any company or person, but a general observation.

Probably the manufacturers test their clutches on the bench by applying torque to them until they slip. Then call that the answer.

The torque handling capability of a clutch is independent of the vehicle. What happens with lighter vehicles is that with all else being equal it takes less torque to accelerate them at a given rate, and therefore engine isn't having to deliver as much load.

You should take this into account, of course, when you are selecting a clutch because you can (as you point out) take liberties with the spec if your car is light enough. I'm sure someone can come up with the maths to describe this...

I can't remember i'm affriad, was over a year ago now and i've had several sleeps since then
£200 seems to ring a bell? I think it was slightly cheaper than the AP equivilent.

Right,
Helix, or AP didnt get back to, so ordered a 6 paddle from a company that did get back to me and gave advice and helped out as best as they could, dont you love ebay
should be here next week, just in time to get the car stripped and the clutch fitted ready for the retro show ;-)

I just used a 7" AP twin plate, rated to 560ft/lb IIRC, bit bitey but never slipped.

How the new clutch, also what did you do with the old one, or did you wear it out.

Have the original AP clutch back in the car for now, not tried it on gas again yet though,
regarding the new paddle clutch, killed it under 200 miles
and found out the twat in the stores sent the paddle clutch and a stock cover and not the uprated heavy duty cover we asked for :x
waiting on a complete replacement clutch with the correct cover and new paddle to be sent out.

Whilst the clutch may not need ti handle the engine's full torque in a low gear due to the wheels breaking traction, it must in the higher gears? Not too many vehicles will spin their wheels in top gear. :D

Just an update guys,
im in the process of looking at taking NCD to court over my clutch,
i returned the clutch as they asked for back in Septmeber this year and have been fucked about ever since,
first time i called they said no sorry have no clutch here even though i had a copy of the signiture of the guy i ordered the clutch from saying he had signed for it,
then it went missing, now every time i call either the people i need are out or are busy and if i leave a message i get no return call,
im already out of pocket by £400 (including the return insured postage)Im now left with going to a small claims court,
im not one to dirty anyones name but think everyone should be aware of these dodgy fuckers,
National Clutch Distribution go by techniclutch on ebay.

Sorry tale. The good thing is they'll probably settle without going to court as they haven't a leg to stand on. Bad side is the court don't enforce the judgement - that's up to you, and can cost. Have they other CC judgements against them? And have they been paid?

Not sure regarding any other CC's against them,

have they been paid? by mean do you mean? if so yeah they were paid back in July when i bought the clutch, have told them i want a refund as had to source a clutch else where due to the time i have been waiting.
