If you go for a tadpole relief, John Eales will sell you one for not very much :)

You also have to round off your oil pump cover so that the tadpole seats nicely. I sent my cover to john and he rounded it off to suit. Again, didn't cost much at all and was back to me the next day :)

From what you've described i think it's more likely to be low oil / loss of suction.

I drained oil to the correct (indicated on my dip stick anyway) oil level. No light flicker since. I wouldn't have thought the oil was high enough to be hit by the crank, maybe it was. Anyway my fingers are crossed!

Check your dipstic, mate. I'm not saying it's wrong, just to be certain it's correct.
At your next service, when you refill with oil make sure you put in the correct amount, volumetrically and before you start the engine, put the dipstick in and pull it out and see if the level reads as you would expect it to.
Then start it and top up etc.

I very nearly lost my bike's motor to that. It had a mod fitted that extended the sump depth for cooling, but had the original dipstick, so my refill overfilled it by almost double......
Cheers,
John

She is due the 500mile running in oil change at the weekend as it happens. It's a "shiny" chrome dipstick which isn't original so it's a distinct possibility! Standard Rover v8 with a SD1 sump takes 5.5litres with the oil filter changed?
I thought I had put that in on the rebuild but it was over the top line of the 'stick....I will report back my findings.
