Was it the same engine as used for the TVR V8S? Also a 4.0 liter engine, but there quoted as 240 bhp. In that case my engine performs as designed.
As said this was for one that was new, all 400SE's are now at least 20 years old. Also TVR make sure everything was 100% on test engines, so most users cars was about 10% less. 275 was for the Andy Rouse 390's the 400SE was rated at 268 BHP.
The 4.0 V8 S engine was same and the Chim. and Griff 4.0 which was a LR 3.9 with a different cam and ECU timing.
The 4.0 400SE engine was a re-worked 3.5 and gave slightly more power. then the later 4.0 engine. but you had the option on 4.3 4.3 BV, 4.5 and 5.0 engines on the Chim and Griff.
One point I missed on the mods to the 400SE engine was the double valve springs.
