Hi
I finally managed to break the ice around the garage and get some work done on the v8, after Id stopped my fingers sticking to the block :( I took the pistons out. I noticed that after I had take No.s 8-7 out it got much easier to turn, I think this is because the rod on No. 7 will bearly move on the gudgeon pin :!: :?: even when I tapped the rod with a rubber hammer it is realy hard to move and impossible (well I cant) to move it by hand.
Any Ideas??

The rings on No. 8 had broken up and I also noticed that the groove that the top ring fits in has got a bulge in it, Kinda hard to explane but the groove opens up from say 1.5mm to about 3 and then returns to 1.5. for about 10mm. There dosnt seem to be any damage to the lower grooves and the top of the piston is perfectly flat (around the edge, obviously it has the hollow in the center) so I wondered if it was a casting imperfection.

I guess ill need to get a new piston to replace No.8? What do you think about No.7?

It looks like what I hoped would be a cheap re-build will turnout to be an expencive one
