That sounds correct
Now I believe but have never done it so don't know.
1) As you say it always expects to see lambda sensors but by fitting the different tune resistor it sends enough pf a message to the Ecu to let it run the engine to a set value. This is the non CAT setting and what people refer to as without lambdas
2) If you have lambdas you fit the oother tune resistor and it reads the exhaust snif and makes adjustments
3) If you fit lambdas and need to tune the setup to match your engine I believe you can stick a variable resistor in place of the tune resisor and with an exhaust probe rotate the variable resistor until you get the correct readings across your rev range. Then take out the var resistor without moving it, measure the resistance and fit a similar value resistor. As I say I have been told this will work by electronic boffins but have never tried it as I'm chicken! BUt it could improve MPG or power output depending on what you want.

Mr Bodger
I believe the item arrowed is the thingy that lets the engine know when the auto box goes into drive and is where the 510 resistor goes.
Plug 2 is the old style ECU diagnostic tool socket and it's a bitch to find anyone who still has the diagnostic tools to connect to it
8 are the relays that power the fuel pumps and engine system
But then I could be wrong! Hell that's half the fun of these things!

thankyou Mr Ian ...lol
i love these engines becuse we can still do this sort of stuff to them and thats the fun , your so right
what i have discovered so far
no:2 is the main connector
the diagnotic connector is the 3rd block thingy near the relays no:8
the 510 ohm resisitor goes on a seperate orange/black wire , (not shown in the picture, but next the main connector no 2)
but as in the "Rover V8 Hotwire Efi Wiring Details" sticky post
thankyou Ian
ps:
just sussed it , i followed the wires to the ECU and it the onboard test modual connection number 14 on the wiring diagram , not used on this model and the one next to the relays is the one LANDROVER plug into for the service info

Hell that could explain alot as my diagnostics plug looks just like your item number 2
Perhaps I should get a plug like your number 8 blue thingy - should make it easier for diagnosis to be done!
cheers

as far as i can rememer the plug number:2 is 8 or 9 pin and that is definatly the main loom connector ...
or number 12 in this picture

the diagnostic plug is number:7
or number 14 is this picture
http://www.v8forum.co.uk/images/forumim ... twire3.jpg
the extra plug at number:8 is a connector for the aircon/fan
controls
or number:33 is this picture

...learning extra bits as the hours go by ...lol

Hi All
Can anyone tell me where I can get the 'Green' Tune resistor for non CAT, and the 510Ohm resistor, preferably with plug for manual transmission?
Or will I have to go to an electrical store to get them made up (does anyone know of places that still do this type of thing)
Thanks a lot for your help
Regards
Mark

If all you want is a resistor or two, PM me with their values and your address and I'll pop them in the post for you.Cappucino-kid wrote:Hi All
