valve oil seals?

Do the newer seals need a groove to sit in at the top of the valve guides? I have the old ones but was thinking along the lines of getting a tiny cutting disk in there (ie dremel) and making a little groove around the top of the valve guide so the little spring round the neoprene seal has something to locate in so it doesnt pop off- as the outside of the guides dont do anything except sit there I thought there is nothing to loose and loads of material to play with!!! Ideas?
