The 5.5L RV8 based engine from Rob at V8Developments running one of my MS's with wasted spark, TVR heads, hydraulic cam and an ACT triple pluenum produced 374BHP (420lbs of torque iirc) on a known good rolling road. I want one now

What sort of price would that be compared with fitting, say, a late model Chevy 'aloominum' LS motor? Would it be a practical and economical equivalent?

Holy moly! Did he give details of the heads spec? And was it the same 5.5 that was in Practical Performance car racing a maestro of all things?

Hi all,
Rob did tell me what he had done to it, but Ive forgotten :( . but basically it had polished TVR heads (5.0L) a hydraulic cam but not sure what one and a triple plenum from ACT. It was very similar to the one in PPC but this one doesnt have the restiction of a blocked set of cats that the one in PPC has, and I believe (but I could be wrong) it uses the AFM, where as the restriction of the air flow meter has gone when you use a MS.

I have driven the car quite a lot and it was absolutley blo*dy fantastic!!! Drive down the road in the summer, hot day, with a nearly new set of Bridgestone something or others on the rear, floor the throttle in second and when it hits 3000RPM the wheels spin!! I get back in my 5.0L and it feels slow!! Now I just have to have one of the 5.5's , I was totally gob smacked at the difference, I thought it would be similar to mine, but its in a different world.

Cost, Im not sure, but I dont think it was too bad, I will be finding out soon when I order mine   just got to have one !!! Im going to keep my siamese plenum and TVR top end with Rob's bottom end.

So its got some poke then! How come theres such a difference between a your 5.0 and 5.5? Your engine is standard tvr griff isn't it?

I have absolutely no idea, I thought it would be as quick as mine as it still has CAT's and that awful TVR exhaust, but its as if someone has bolted a turbo onto it. Rob reckons it will take some boost too, as he says its a very strong lump, so I may go that way in the future when I get used to the power,

My old V8 in my MGB does about 185 at the fly, about 155 at the wheels with no gas.
That sounds similar to min mgb 3.5. I got 187 at the fly 220lb/ft, with weber, piper 285 cam and polished ports etc... I went to alwyn kershaw in york. He didn't have the jets and it was running like a pig at the time so maybe should be a bit more no that it runs well. 200 maybe or is that too hopefull.

My MGB puts out 257 at the fly ( 202 at the wheels) with a 50 shot of gas.

Waiting for a dyno run with the bigger system in Jan or Feb.
