how much are you going to pay for OE shafts ? and in the wrong PCD ? which may require money spent on them ?
Price the shafts off Hauser anyway. They may have gone up due to the crappy exchange rate. Although pretty sure every set I bought, were all the same price regardless of rate at the time. Although it was always better than it is now.
But having them in your own PCD and centre bore size, does have obvious fitment benefits.
Still dont think you've mentioned.
What actual shaft length do you need ?
You've said what the Capri etc is, but not what the 8.8" will require

i thought i said earlier maybe not then
my current ones are just over 29" face to end of shaft,
an inch shorter would bring the wheels back under the arches which would nearly be the same as the capri is now,

wonder if I still have the original Ford shafts then. They must be shorter than my current ones, as I had to widen my axle.Coops wrote:i thought i said earlier maybe not then![]()

Almost sure I chucked em out though.
Will have a look in the garage later. Although they are 5 stud, not sure on PCD, but probably quite big.

Defo dont have the original shafts.
But the 5stud shaft could be shortened and re-splined ok.
But for the hassle of that work, redrilling the PCD....I still think the best solution is just to get a set custom made for yourself.

Coops, I run this axle on my Capri. Somewhere in the mists of time gone by, I did a full write up of the installation.
Don`t cut anything, just change the back-spacing on your rear wheels(Pro race 1.2`s?). 2 new wheels cost....what?........£240.00?? Run the c-clip eliminators. Why use disc brakes on the back when the drums on the 8.8" are more than adequate?

as stevie said i will end up with odd wheels

drums are ok if you have them on the axle, mine came without, hence need to go discs

Stevie just a quick note, measured the shafts again tonight propper,
mussie ones are 29.25" long
cappa ones 28" (ish) long measured two cappa shafts and they were not the same length

yeah hope to offer my 8.8 into the rear of a capri at caprisport the weekend,
as dont want to drop my axle out yet as still driving the car
at least we can see if with my wheels on how far out the width is,
have also mailed hauser asking for a rough price on some shafts made to order with 4 stud, and machined for C clips.

2 odd wheels?
I assume you`ve got wider tyres on the back than you have on the front when racing, So they are already "odd". Buy the same style wheel you already have but with a different inset/offset. From the side, the wheel won`t look any different because all the width is inside the arch due to the face of the wheel being further out due to increased axle width. On my car you can`t tell the differece and I`ve got 7x15" wheels with 225/50x15 tyres for road use. The spare wheel/tyre combo can be any standard Capri Wheel and it will fit front and back. It`s only got to get you home right!
I`m also running a panhard rod with Cal-trac bars and unless someone knew their Capris, they would never know. Do away with any X-frame, if fitted. Ford motorsport do a disc fitting kit based on Ford Explorer bits & pieces, used to be cheap if bought as a complete kit.
At your power level, perhaps you do not need a c-clip eliminator kit? Save your money for some decent shafts as outlined by Stevie

hi mate,
my wheels are no longer available,
so will need 4 new wheels for on the road, then two extra wheels for when we go racing for the drag radials, so 6 new wheels
so i got no choice but narrow the rear end,
the brakes are sorted, caprisport are doing there wizardry with that side of the conversion
