edelbrock 1404 parts needed

Post by Richard P6 »

Hi all

A couple or three years ago, for some reason I no longer remember, I removed the choke flap and mechanism from my 1404. After doing a lot of work on the engine, and a lot of other things on the car, I now wish to put them back. It used to run very rich so I didn't really need it anyway.

Problem is, they are no longer where I remember putting them.

Anyone have some, or can put me in touch with someone who may sell the parts?

piccy of engine :)

Cheers

Richard

I might have some parts stashed somewhere. I also removed them and definitely will not put them back. Let you know later this week when I get back home.

I have everything except the spindle (long) bar - would this be of help?
Spent so much on trial and error!

Curious,

Is there any advantage to removing the choke mechanism ?

I and a lot of other folk remove them for drag racing to improve air flow.
A lot of folk who do this Weber 500 conversion on their MGB V8's dont bother connecting the choke anyway. It may not be good practice, but after running S/U's for years on an MGB V8 and then having a carb with accelerator pumps its easy to give the pedal a few pumps and then get the engine to fire from freezing cold. You just have to keep the revs up for a minute while the engine warms. :)

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

Likewise i never use the choke i have using a couple of jabs of the loud pedal before starting to get the fuel through and a bit of toe and heel to keep the revs up when cold to stop it cutting out.

I shall have to take a look to see exactly what i have to remove re the choke parts, anybody have any before and after photo's re the choke removal,

Regards,

Martyn.

Yes please - just want to hang on a mo in case minorv8 has all of it.

Do you mean the short spindle that the choke flap actually screws to, or the long one that crosses the whole carb.

Cheers

I did a very quick search yesterday evening and found some odd Holley stuff like a complete electric choke kit but did not find the Edelbrock parts yet.

My fail-safe spare part stash is not that fail-safe at all...

Many thanks Mark, all back in and running again :)

I did remove it a few years ago (maybe longer - memory isn't too good these days) because I didn't think I needed it, but to be honest for a car which is often used to pop down the shops or to go to work in, it's better to have it.

Now to get out there and tune it :)

Thanks Again

Richard
