RV8 'Big Valves'?

Post by jeboa »

Looking through the GSValves catalog and noticed this:

INLET
REC 315 MGB V8 3500cc 1.630”/41.4mm Inlet Std. Stem, Std. Groove
REC 460 MGB V8 3500cc 1.692”/43.0mm Inlet Std. Stem, Std. Groove
REC 477/1 MGB V8 3500cc 1.692”/43.0mm Inlet 5/16” Stem, Special Groove
REC 508 MGB V8 3500cc 1.750”/44.4mm Inlet 5/16” stem, Ford Pinto Groove
REC 456 MGB V8 3500cc 1.844”/46.8mm Inlet 5/16” stem, Ford Pinto Groove

EXHAUST
REC 117 MGB V8 3500cc 1.350”/34.3mm Exhaust
REC 316 MGB V8 3500cc 1.400”/35.5mm Exhaust Std. Stem, Std. Groove
REC 461 MGB V8 3500cc 1.455”/37.0mm Exhaust Std. Stem, Std. Groove
REC 478/1 MGB V8 3500cc 1.455”/37.0mm Exhaust 5/16” Stem, Special Groove
REC 509 MGB V8 3500cc 1.470”/37.3mm Exhaust 5/16” Stem, Ford Pinto Groove
REC 457 MGB V8 3500cc 1.556”/39.5mm Exhaust 5/16” Stem, Ford Pinto Groove

Pretty sure that REC 460 and REC 461 are what TVR supplied in 'Big Valve' heads (they're £20 each inc VAT  from GSV)

What 'MGB' V8 were the REC 456 / REC 457 installed into????

Anyone know any more economical source for 1.692”/43.0mm & 1.455”/37.0mm valves.

A full set with guides and seals is £350 at V8Tuner, and TVR Power want £24 per valve and also list them as being ' the largest valves that can be fitted on standard factory valve seats'.I thought for this size, you would need larger seats?

Real Steel do their DW500 valves which are also supposed to be the largest valves that can be fitted to the standard seats. Dunno how much they cost though.

V8 tuner parts are using STD stem, and you have to change valve seat´s also.

These can be fitted with STD seat..

I think there is a mistage for REC 456 and 457.. You cannot fit those without welding heads and offset guides.

I/we can get Manley SS valves for ~13£ inc vat from Finland.. they are 8mm stem and ford pinto type lock. And size are inlet 42 or 44mm and exhaust 35 or 37mm.. Lenght same as original.

I've just bought some heads from an old TVR Griffith (4.3), they're not the 'Big Valve' type, but have 1.630”/41.4mm & 1.350”/34.3mm valves installed at the moment.

Interested in the valves you mention above - closest I could find in the Manley catalog were:

11211-4 Exh. 38.5 mm 8.0 mm / .3130 4.500 15˚ x 3/8" .060 .090 10˚ Dish XH-426
11205-4 Exh. 40.0 mm 8.0 mm / .3130 5.000 15˚ x 1/2" .080 .100 9˚ Dish XH-426
11210-4 Int. 48.5 mm 8.0 mm / .3130 4.500 10˚ x 11/32" .060 .080 5˚ Dish NK-842
11204-4 Int. 52.0 mm 8.0 mm / .3130 5.000 10˚ x 3/8" .050 .080 5˚ Dish NK-842

Have you had some special to order made up, and do you have any left over? :)

I only ask price and manufacturer when i call to our local dealer..
http://www.hm-osatuonti.fi/upload/view_ ... duct=25109
List price is 24€/each, but they can sell them to 16€ ~13£ if i take set of 16..
I think they are suitable for Volvo B200? Ford OHC and VW beetle? They say that those are Manley SS valves.. I ask offer about month ago, but out of stock. Coming soon this month..
