I've actually seen some of this stuff done, some of it really scarey
I made a blower out of a viva heater motor whilst at college a long time ago. Cased it in ally sheet & plumbed it into the air intake, it looked the baws.
This was fitted to my "sporty" datsun 100a & seemed to work ok on speed 1, but pinked like hell on speed 2.
I also lowered it by cutting a coil out of the springs & heating the ends & beating them flat.
Straight through exhaust to a center mounted cherry bomb..... bloody loud
I also had a hand painted 1600cc, 3 speed Lada riva, but that's another story

When you're an apprentice on £35 a week, you learn to adapt.
Yeah, i know it was tongue in cheek
The Lada was a piece of work tho. Seen better in the scrappy
Hand painted with household gloss
2lt fiat twin cam & box
Polski rear axle....cos it was disc braked.
Cut down springs from..erm can't remember with munroe gasmatics
Home made roll cage, tied into A & B pillars, that was the best bit....took 2 weekends to fabricate
Certainly gave the rs2000 guys a fright

Most folk wouldn't know what to do with burning gear these days, let alone hammers & chisels
