Hello,
I'm changing the engine in my car from a 3.5 to a 4 litre rover, the new engine doesn't have the drillings to take a SD1 windage tray, I think it's important to use 1. Is it ok to drill and tap threads into the new block?
Thanks for help.
4.0 windage tray?

It will do. It has the same stroke as the 3.5 and 3.9.kstrutt1 wrote:Does it actually clear the 4.0 crank? worth checking before you drill holes etc.
No problem at all, just drill and tap it. There's nothing there to damage.
As an aside, the 3.5s (The early ones at least) also had supports for the oil pick up attached to the fourth mains cap. 3.9s didn't have that, rather the oil pick up was held on solely with two scabby 1/4 unc bolts at its base.
Dunno about the 4L as that has a different oil system but the same applies, it should be supported at the end like the early 3.5s were.

Re: 4.0 windage tray?
Hi. Don't drill too deep as the 4.0 cross bolts line through with some of the windage tray bolts.Paul V8 wrote:Hello,

Just out of interest, are you using the 4.0 sump /front cover and oil pick up pipe?
