The ECU doesn't have anything to do with the ignition system on the 3.9. You can ditch the ECU and you'll still get a spark.

I'm with Eliot on fuel injection (provided it's not on a Landie that lives in mud slurry all the time)

sorry meant if i fitted full mega squirt i would only really use the ignition side of it :) (yes i know i could just fit megajolt if only it was cheap enough!)
and yes another reason to keep it simple, my motor is often to be found with water over the bonnet or buried up to the wing tops in mud.

Ironically many off roaders have gone over to megajolt/squirt for ignition because they are very waterproof.
