Bypass pipe

Is it true that I will need a thermostat housing with a bypass pipe IF i want to run a 4 barrel carb on my Rv8,and if so where would it have to be plumbed into??.

was rather hoping to use a standard range rover jobbie, I could always weld a small stub pipe off it!

any ideas
