it looks like i'm going for 34mm now. supposedly 36mm chokes are too big for the carb and at £100 a set of 8 i want it right from the start.

Just for reference the Dellorto's atomise fuel better than the Webers so the perceived advantage lies with the individual engine. Webers probably have more tuning info available though. If your lucky enough to have a rolling road nearby with a Weber or Dellorto franchise I would go with whichever they stock parts for. Been a long time sine I played with any carbs except Holleys.

there is one but the engine isn't even run in and if i took it there would they not need to take it thru the whole rev range?

You could always run it in with a simple 4 barrel or injection set up first, then switch to the webers/dellortos later. At least that way you will be able to compare and see how good the four carb set up is.

well i have a weber 500 and manifold + filter, but its brand new and if i can sell it so it is still brand new i will get more money for it.

Stick a pair of SU's on for running in, dirt cheap, then when you have a done a few hours you can put your quads on and get it on the rollers.

easy to get set up at idle and to transition on the rich side by lifting the needels up one stop in the pistons so you will be safe from running lean but still without bore washing.
