Exhaust Insulation On A Turbo Engine
Hi,
Involved with a twin turbo Rover V8 race car, on a shake down run found the paint blistering on the bonnet where the exhaust run very close, is there any reason why exhaust wrap cannot be used on a turbo engine I know ceramic coating would poss be better but as ever cost is an issue
Cheers John

Try this stuff under the bonnet
On the GT40 I have the bottom of the rear "bonnet" covered
Exhayst collectors are about 3/4 inch below it and after a run I can hold my hand on the fiberglass so it works

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the reply, would be nice to keep the heat inside the exhaust but looks like a good solution. You actually see the paint blister up and then as bonnet cooled once lifted off the car it healed itself!!! One of those cars where heat is going to be a huge problem!

Ive always been led to believe that keeping the heat inalong the hot side is a 'good thing'?
Ive also heard good things about wrapping both the turbo (in its own blanket) and also the exhaust
Andy Frost runs blankets without any issues as do many many many people over on Yellow Bullet and The Turbo Forum

You can buy turbo blankets, and they do work just fine. Any decent turbo shop should be able to supply something suitable
