Rattly exhaust(poss)
I have a nasty rattle that has progressivly come on over the last week. Thinking it was the cat breaking up i seeked a second & third opinion from two commercial mechanics at work. One said one of the ends was knocking & the other said gearbox internals/ bearing. Seems too tinny to be ends knocking. Thinking the worst i popped into my local landrover supplier who said what i thought at first. Well cat section now removed, but cannot hear the noise over awsome engine noise from open manifold, so am asuming the cats are at fault. Oh, once removed i found sandy like powder coming from removed section. looking to fit classic r/r downpipes without cats & installing the o2 sensors as will run on gas at mot. Just not sure about thread size for sensors to make up the boss. Any thoughts??

I'd guess the popping means it is over fuelling and then the fuel continuing to burn in the exhaust on the overrun
Worth checking it out as if it gets a bit more fuel the "big backfire" could shred your silencer
