Also once it is full of water flash a flame over the filler hole whilst standing back- just incase! (there would only be a tiny bit of vapor left in there if any once it is nearly full of water)

But he doesn't seem to think tweice about doing stuff like that where I would be dubious! Always worked though!

Mmmmm yes I know it can be done but better safe than sorry :eek and of course its a stainless tank and it would have to come out really which would involve lifting the body so not really an option Eric.

Tank inlet?

If so
Remove the straight / curved pipe and t into this for the return

You may also find that youhave a breather pipe in there too and at a push this could be used but not that desirable

I have als seen people that have removed their fuel gauge sender

drilled through the top and fitted a return pipe through this and then welded / braised the pipe inplace before refitting the sender and connecting up the flexable hose / return .

Always more than one way to skin a car (or is that a snake in you case!)

Hi Ian, some good points thanks. Once again trying to beat the Dec 1999 dead line for the 2/3rds SVA not thinking straight I put the sender in the top of the tank which is better as regards leaks in that area but a silly mistake as regards access at a later date, should have gone to speck savers and put it in the side with access under the rear wheel arch, space between the rear top Pannell and the top of the tank is minimal so again no chance of removing sender, just hope it never goes wrong :( The tank will fill from either side (two Aston Rollers) which come down the normal way under the wheel arch, then some (like all things Cobra) some very expensive 90 deg silicone rubber lined pipe which connects onto the tank filers either side, so yes could go in there I guess; I see Merlin Motor Sport do a little kit mainly for water that punches out the hole and contains a fitting for tee-ing in a line of your choice. As it happens one of the bends has a connecting 6mm walled ally pipe where I made a mistake cutting it to length  so I could drill and tap that to except a fitting with flexible pipe dangling down to the bottom of the tank. Most Manufacturers also put there return in the sender pump set up like you described. Yes got suitable breather which comes from the top of the tank, down to chassis level then up again around 18" and exits out into the rear wheel arch with a top hat thigie on it so no petrol smell in the boot and if it turns over it stops the petrol running out  but as you say it could seriously compromise the tank breathing thanks Eric.
