EDIS 8 + GEMS

Does anybody know if EDIS 8 can be used with the GEMS flywheel sensor and coil packs?

Depends what you want to put in between the sensor and EDIS8. The EDIS8 requires some intelligence source to tell it when to fire and how much to advance or retard. In a GEMS system this comes from the engine ECU. In it's original innstallation again the EDIS is instructed by the engine ECU. EDIS8 on LR in the UK is normally driven by MS or equivalent.

As far as I understand EDIS8 simply rotates the coil firing pulse through the different coils and advances or retards the pulse according to instructions recieved.
What ate you trying to achieve?

I plan to use MegaJolt + EDIS 8 on my latest build.

I hope to use the stock Crank sensor and GEMS coilpacks.

If not, I can fall back to the aftermarket sensor + coilpacks, but it would be nice to stick with at least the crank sensor.

I have everything now to try it anyway, so I'll be finding out shortly!

if you know the teeth config of the flywheel there is a table on the MS forums that tell you if it will work with it or not. You will also need to find out if the OE sensor is hall or VR. I dont know if megajolt can work with both or if it is just one or the other, usually hall being the easy one.

edis 8 requires a 36-1 wheel. Wont work on anything else.

The GEMS flywheel is 36-1, so that's OK. I've re-indexed it to get the gap 50degrees before TDC on no. 1.

So the only real issue is whether the stock crank sensor will trigger the EDIS unit, and that's what I'll be finding out shortly....

Todays experiment has told me that YES, the stock GEMS crank trigger will work with EDIS8.

Saves me faffing around with a crank pulley trigger wheel.
