3.9 heads

Post by Rovernuts »

i ave a set of 3.9 heads i'm putting on my 3.5 P6 Rover and since they aren,t from the car and i have had them refinished i can't seem to tell the difference in them so as i go to install them i don't see which is the right and left head.......on the 3.5 the outter hole on the right was outside the oil plug and the left inside the oil plug but these look identical............the one head has a stud at the back outter port side hole but other than that i can't see a difference........................Anyone know which is which or how to tell......or does it matter with these heads

Thanks
Bill

Hello Bill,

The heads are not sided. You can use either head on either side of the engine.

Bill,

As Ron said.

Only important thing is to check the oil feeds to the rocker gear, only two of the feeds are used depending on which way the heads round the heads are bolted onto the the block.

The two redundent holes tend to block up and even if the heads have been chemically cleaned can still be blocked, the feeds are in the end rocker pillar supports, just run a bit of welding rod or something similar through them to make sure they are clear and then squirt some penetrating fluid through to make sure they are clean.
