Can you post some pictures showing where the valve marks are in the pistons?

It may be possible to alter the valve cutouts (which you've no doubt already figured). Good luck!
It's not a bodge if no one finds out!

The timing gear i am using is the Edelbrock Timing Set TRUE Duplex Roller Chain, as supplied by V8 tuner. The valve timing is correct, the more i look the more it looks like a clearence issue, has any body got some pictures of piston pockets, how deep can i go?? Could i use a solid lifter to mock up the engine and check?? Does anyone have an old solid lifter? Thanks. :(

You may have missed the comment in my rather long post, you can make a solid lifter out of an old hydaulic lifter by taking it apart and filling it with candle wax! You need to refit the inner cup so that it can not be compressed at all once the wax has set and also so that it is tight up against the retaining spring. I'd also use weak tester springs.

You can then get the piston about 10mm before TDC with the valves on the rock and then push the valves down by hand to see if they hit anything, move the piston up a couple of mm then test the valves again. Keep repeating the process until about 10mm ADTC

I have a load of old lifters that you can have if you want them plus some pushrods that are in good nick.
