I have recently got a Triumph Stag with a rover v8 fitted. The rover engine is a lot lighter than the original V8, this making the steering even lighter than a standard Stag.
Can I disconnect the power steering pump making the rack unassisted with out doing any damage to the rack?

Yep, can be done, You will have to disconect the pump from the rack, either totally remove all fluid from the rack and plug/cap the pipe ports where the pipes fitted, This should work, but the better soloution is again remove all the fluid from the rack and then link both ports to each other,
Of course you could talk to the PAS repairers and see if there is an internal pressure reg that you can screw down to reduce the pressure in the system, or look for a lower pressure pump from another car,
Of course the lightness in the steering may be down to the nose of the car being too high and you have lost some castor angle, does the steering self centre,

Thanks for the advice.
The steering doesn't self center, can remember of my last stag if its supposed to or not.
The car seemingly had the suspension upgrade to counter act he lighter engine.
Stag steering I always thought was bit light but this is scary as you dont actual feel that much through the wheel.
