Removing cylinder heads from Rover V8

Post by al mackenzie »

OK, a (silly?) question to all you Rover V8-knowledgeable forum users: I've finally got my '72 Rover P6 V8 engine hung on an engine stand, now I want to remove the heads, but can't get my hands on my Hanes manual and Factory Workshop Manual for a couple more weeks (long story)... Do I have to loosen the cylinder head bolts in a particular order (just as there is a specific order in which to torque them up)? Is it the same order or the reverse of tightening sequence? Can somebody be so kind as to describe the correct sequence for removal so I can get on with tinkering in my lock-up this coming weekend? Maybe one of you could upload a scan or sketch of the little diagram I remember from the Hanes book? Thanks for your help in advance chaps!

'72 Rover 3500, 6yr back-to-the-bare-Base-Unit nut & bolt resto finished in time for her 40th birthday June 2012!

I just start at the ends of the head and work towards the middle. Never given me any cause for concern so far.

Chris.
