Rover V8 to Ford MT75 Gearbox

does anybody know if there is an adaptor plate to mate the two up????
as Neil at caprisport wants to try and mate the two together,
got to be stronger than the LT77, and it fits nice in the capri tunnel and has the option of a quick shift where the lt77 does not,

correct me if im wrong but isnt the mt75 a 4wd box as used in the xr4x4 and cosworth 4x4?

they do a 2wd version also,
cossy granadas use it also

Its a 2wd box as well on 2.0 sierras and the like also transits. Its only rated at 250 pounds torque so could be a bit lacking. Apparently the preferred option is to take a 4wd box and convert it to 2wd, reasoning being the 4wd boxes were mostly on the bigger v6 engines so have better ratios. Cant find any mention anywhere of an adapter ring being made to mate one to the rover just loads of use a T5 which I know doesn't help you any. What size clutch/flywheel does the v6 engines use, are they as big as the v8? Unless you are cutting and welding the new flange on I guess you would have to space the flywheel and end of crank out too. What about starter motor as well? From memory they are in roughly the same place but if your spacing the flywheel something is going to have to be done with that as well. Obviously anything can be done but is it worth it for a box that isn't the best for this application?

had this argument with a cossie pest just last week he was addament theywere only 4x4 just cos sapphires had em, any way there was a company called a frame engineering was doing a bellhousing for the type 9 box and im assuming the mt75 was the replacement box maybe they share a bell housing

just found a diagram of a box and the starter is on the other side to the rover but the clutch on the bigger engines is 242mm so not that far away.

Type MT75 The MT-75 5 speed gearbox, that relaced the Type 9. Available in 2wd and 4wd versions. Power rating: Approx 250 BHP

All the 4cylinder gearboxes use the same BH bolt pattern anyway, so mating up a rwd MT75 shouldnt be that difficult ??

I wouldnt say either the 2wd, or 4wd versions are renowned for their strenght though.

Also life is made harder by them having an integral bellhousing. Perhaps if there is a rwd V6 or diesel MT75, it might be stronger....but the couple of diesel rwd fords Ive came across, used an older T9 variant.

What sort of pricing are we talking about here, or aiming for for a strong gearbox conversion ??

Obviously the Toyota box is a good conversion...

But another option, although again hampered by a fixed bellhousing, is a 2wd Skyline box.

They are becoming more common, and should be strong enough for most RV8's

Failing that, surely normal 5speed Toyota boxes are plentiful here in the UK ?? I think the non turbo Mk IV Supra uses the regular 5 speed doesnt it ??

Or some BMW boxes, although they tend to use a 1:1 top gear which is awkward.

or perhaps a Nissan 300zx TT box ?? or maybe even the n/a version ?

Not sure which 5speed the Hi-lux uses ?? Id guess the BH pattern would be same as most toyota non turbo boxes though ???

i was happy with the sherpa box as it has been fault free, then Neil at caprisport was on about making up a mt 75 set up for me to try,
then it got me thinking about changing my gearbox again to something a bit more stronger,
yes the toyota box's are plentyful but so is the price as a few now realise us rover boys want them,

If looking for a Toyota box, I'd just try random smaller breakers around the country.

There must be Supras lying in some of their yards.

Cheapest I bought a turbo box ( albeit the input shaft nose sleeve/bearing retainer was broke ) was £50 locally.

There is no way every breaker in the country knows what these boxes are good for.
hell, you could probably find an entire scrap Supra car for little money somewhere.
