Torque Converter bolts

OK anyone have any idea how to get a well tight and slightly knackered torque converter bolt out?

This is on the Small Block Chevy in my Overfinch, there is no access for a socket to get to the bolts and one of them is so tight I cannot get it out with an open ended spanner and I cant get a ring on it due to lack of clearance

Was thinking of air hacksaw but I don't really want to damage the flex plate and its adapter.

How tight is it for clearance ?

Can you maybe thin down a ring spanner a bit ? Grind a bit of the block away to allow a ring to slip over ?

And what make of ring spanner ? Likes of a Snap On Flank drive are stronger than most.

No room for a set of Vise grips or similar ?

Or gland/water pump style pliers ?



Given these tighten their grip as you pull, they can be very good for stubborn bolts.

I will get a picture or 2 and post, I did try slimming down a ring spanner but the head of the bollt is to far gone for it to grip properly.

This thing is fighting me all the way and that's before the engine is even out

What ChrisJC said above, can't you weld something to it??, the heat would also help break the threadlocker compound that was probably also used.

So the bolt head is knacked. You can get an open ended spanner on though. What about the nut side? Can you get a ring spanner on that?

From what i can visualise you dont have enugh side clearance to slip a ring spanner on, but there is a little clearance? Would there be room to use a set of 8" stillsons with a pipe over the handle for leverage?

You may be able to fit a spring loaded basin wrench to grip the knacked head. Not that expensive from a pluming tools place ?
