AFR sensing kit required

I 'd quite like to fine tune my carb (I'm running megajolt) and I understand one of the best ways to tune is to have AFR sensors on each exhaust. I have checked out the Innovate DLG-1 which I think would be absolutely ideal. However the cost of those is putting me off. Are there any other solutions I could look at?

Snag is wideband O2 sensors need rather sophisticated electronics, hence the cost. You'll presumably also need a reader with it - unless MegaJolt can display the AFR from the sensor electronics, like MegaSquirt.

I cant really see much point in a permanently installed wideband with a carb, as you can't map the fuelling with that in the same way as you can with injection.
But it could certainly be a tuning aid. Just stuffed up the tailpipe to set the mixture then removed afterwards.

There are cheaper alternatives to Innovate. But not sure if they do a reader too.

I had an mtx fitted to mine where the two banks met under the car, I had reasonable results with it tuning a eddie500, I also managed to log it using the megajolt with the information supplied on the megajolt forum

Often if you want to monitor both banks, it will just be cheaper to buy two complete wideband kits. Although a dual display will be easier to install and hence more practical.

Price...look at the bigger picture, if it helps you tune, maybe save some fuel, help diagnose problems....they really are invaluable these days.

If the carb/manifold is split per bank then that's more reason to aim for a wideband per bank.


As for whether permanent or part time install, I would always opt for permanent, as it's an easy way to keep an eye on how things are running at all times.

Some of them also allow you to log rpm/manifold pressure as well as AFR's, which can be helpful to review before making changes to the carb setup, as opposed to you having to remember how things were running.
