Trumpet Base Blending,

Post by Coops »

Hi guys,
been advised as im now running force induction to remove the trumpets from the base and blend it in,
I know a few of you have done it and looking for advice etc, (p.s a few have given advice already)
but would like a wider range of advice of how it was done before I try and do my own

depends what you are running at the moment. Blended base will perform better than std oem 36 m trumpets, but if you are running proper trumpets (not the oem ones) - then they will still work best imo.

I made a rounded cutter for my milling machine to cut the trumpets into the base.

Coops if you are not in a hurry and your base (and therefore inlet manifold) are totally stock, i could yank the trumpets out of the one i have here and flare it out for you to try out?

Coops...Compton? Crikey, spent much of my latter youth in/around Compton, learning to drive at what now seems like crazy, crazy speeds up along the downs, out to the Ilsleys...long winter walks up Apple Pie Hill...and down it on an upturned VW Beetle Bonnet when it snowed; it used to snow all the time then...and superb blasts to The Bell at Aldworth for pints of Maggs and a few hot cheese rolls :)

Now, you've just brought back a wonderful memory of Compton...apologies all for the trip down memory lane...there used to be a fellow in Horn Street who owned an opalescent white Lotus Esprit Turbo in the late 80's, I had a black 911. We'd sometimes meet heading north on the A34, take the Compton exit and drive with mucho's gusto on the East Ilsley to Compton road!

PS are the Compton Players still going...?

love the east ilsley to Compton road, yup the CP still going, :)
I was born in the area and never moved away :)

Elliot that would great thank you, I have a spare hotwire TB I can swap with you if you want so you still have one once its done??
my inlet has been ported but cant remember to what size I know the outlet from the stock TB is smaller than the ports in the top of my inlet base :)

The car is going for mapping at Bailey Performance Ltd Shropshire way around first couple weeks of March if everything goes to plan.

Somewhere in my wanderings around the interweb I found a picture of a trumpet base with a phenolic block in the bottom that had been blended, I could do a search through my hard drive for it if you are looking for ideas. Let me know if you want me to dig around. :)
Cheers,

Yeah Eliot made one for me when I had the MGB V8 TT, but I never had the engine running.
RIP MGB V8 .... served me well as a learning curve.

R32 Skyline V8 .... this one is gonna be a monster!

.
By how much?, seems a waste having a ported manifold if the trumpet base is std.

it was a quick swap over if you remember from when the Twin Plen didnt fit,
wasn't until the car was up and running that we remembered that it hadnt been done,
i opened the top of the inlet out to match the twin plenum base, i can measure that tomorrow after work as the base is in the garage still due to not being collected yet,
