Is my expansion tank big enough

Post by dave wj »

Hi Guys,

I'm currently using an aluminium expansion tank for my RV8 4.6 , on occasion I lose a little coolant (around a quarter cupful) through the pressure cap. I'm wondering if I need a larger exp bottle.
Pretty sure there's no air locks, the engine does not overheat.

What do you think? .

Specs of expansion bottle:

Height = 14cm
Diameter = 10cm
Coolant level = 5cm

Total volume of bottle = 1.1 ltrs
Volume for expansion = 0.707 ltrs

Thanks for your help

Dave

It could be it's a little " full " in the first place, try and leave the water come out and then keep an eye on it, thats the beuty of the clear container ! john
So thats where it went !

Cheers John.

I must admit to thinking about getting a clear tank. The ally one looks nice but is a pain in the proverbial when having to wait for things to cool down to see what the levels are doing.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Dave
