When you are stuck in boston high street in traffic and unwittingly your fans dont start and you start hearing like knocking noises (which is the water boiling). People start looking at you funny as you desperately try to pull over and stop in clouds of steam.

And when you think it has cooled enough to take the cap off, wait a little longer as you will get a 6ft plume of boiling water, as I foolishly did.

When you have a Lucas twin oil pressure / water temperature gauge and the temperature is showing a constant 45 psi (oil pressure), you're getting fuel vaporisation while running and your leccy fan has just packed up! Happened to me trying to get away from Brighton on a bank holiday weekend. D O H !

Wasn't a Rover though so maybe not too relevant

What are the symptoms of this?

Mine, when hot, seems to generate a random 'miss' and the idle varies between 300 (sometimes stalling) and 750. Once you're on the move and revved up a bit it doesn't seem to be a problem but I guess you wouldn't notice at ~3000RPM.

Othertimes it seems to have a nice idle of 1100RPM and doesn't hesitate when you slam the throttle shut, when it's idling about 750 if you come off the throttle hard it dips down disconcertingly.

I guess I should make a thread about it elsewhere  Sorry!
