Overheating problem

Post by ppyvabw »

I'm having a problem with my mgb where the temperature gauge is showing hot. I changed the thermostat, but that didn't fix it. The engine keeps running, and it's keeping it below the red line, but it's much hotter than normal; the fans and thermostat are coming in at a higher temperature too, according to the gauge at least so I am suspecting the sender so I shall change that before anything else.

Failing that, could it be the water pump? Can the impeller come off the shaft - it's the range-rover timing cover and pump. Is there a way I can check before forking out for one?

No dramas - changed the sensor and all was well. Remembered I had one in a spare manifold I have. Also turned it over while doing it, and it pumped water out the sender hole, so the pump's fine.
