what is the difference between the various SD1 radiators?

Post by crenbbf »

Hi All

Needing a little help with a project I'm working on

I require a V8 SD1 rad but looking on Rimmer's site there are several types.

What is the diffference between the 2400TD rad and a manual non AC V8 rad (apart from the price difference?)

cheers

Diesels don't produce so much waste heat? Especially a small one compared to a petrol V8?

Rimmer's prices tend to be based on how many they have/how likely they are to sell. The diesel SD1 is extremely rare these days.

Also some rads have oil coolers for auto transmissions built in.

thanks Gents

The two rads on Rimmers site I'm looking at have neither ac or auto attachments.

The main criteria is that the hose outlets are at the top left and the bottom right and of course the size is right.

cheers

The ATF cooler is merely a pipe loop inside both side tanks.
The AC rad has IIRC three rows rather than two to cope with the extra heat from the AC condenser in front of it. And fittings for two heat sensors (AC and cooling fan). But no extra brackets or whatever. The AC condenser is on brackets which fit to the body.

All the V8 rads have top hose connections on the nearside, bottom the offside. There are also one or two small hose connectors on the top offside, one for the expansion tank.

It's ok to use an auto rad with the cooler part unused.

I have a couple of spare EFI auto AC ones (the largest they do) which would need a re-core. You're welcome to one. Should be cheaper to have it done than Rimmer charge for one outright.

Hi Dave

That's much appreciated.

I'll check if we have someone up here who can do a re-core(I'm just outside Perth) and then we can cut a deal.

cheers
