Caliper Positioning
Does anyone know any good reason why a caliper cant be mounted on the leading side of the disc rather than the trailing side?
Re: Caliper Positioning
There are plenty of vehicles out there with calipers on the leading side.Rossco wrote:Does anyone know any good reason why a caliper cant be mounted on the leading side of the disc rather than the trailing side?

Hi
there meant to be small advantages to mounting front calipers behind the axle centre line and the rears in front but the advantages are not large and at the moment I can't remember why, as said above there are many cars that don't do it that way and they don't have problems stopping.
Best regards
Mike

Re: Caliper Positioning
Most simple answer is yes because of the steering geometry and where the steering arm connects.Rossco wrote:Does anyone know any good reason why a caliper cant be mounted on the leading side of the disc rather than the trailing side?
Also irrespective of where the caliper is fitted you need to ensure the bleed nipple is at the top - sounds silly but you'd be amazed how many people fit calipers upside down! (Bleeding is then a big problem - remove caliper and hold right way up etc)

You quite often see rear discs like this.Rossco wrote:Does anyone know any good reason why a caliper cant be mounted on the leading side of the disc rather than the trailing side?
Could it be anything to do with road grit and water etc?
