Hi
Ideally the spring should be as near verticle as possable, the atachment to the axel should be as close to wheel centreline as possable, this leads always to a compromise where by you try not to lean the spring at an angle of more than about 30 degrees (remember if it is leant over at 30 deg you only have 86% of the original spring rate and it will reduce as the spring compresses). You try and keep the mounting closer to the wheel centre line than about a quarter of the way in to the car centreline.
Best regards
