SD1 - TR7 Rear Disc Brake Bracket
Hi,
I would like to convert the rear of my TR7 5 speed axle to disc brakes. Has anyone got a drawing of a bracket that may have been used before? Or would a Ford atlas bracket work with a bit of fiddling? I've got Ford discs and callipers and was wondering if anyone had done the same thing in the past?
Regards,
Ben

You could also look at R31 Nissan Skyline rear brackets, calipers and discs.
Just done this to my TR7 V8 and it looks very promising.
The brackets, which are full circle mount, need a small section cut out to fit over the axle shaft. Cut the original backing plate down to the flange dimension. You could use the R31 handbrake but would need to re-work the cable setup.
Cheers!

I wanted to be able to simply bolt on the discs with no mods to the axle itself. When meant finding discs with a big enough centre. If you're happy to machine the drive-shaft flange down you'd have a much wider choice. The ones I've used are from a Maserati with large drum brakes for the handbrake - which gave me a big enough centre, but rather deep hence the spacer. It is 15mm thick plus a shim of 0.6mm to get the calliper carrier absolutely central.
Most would probably be happy to machine the flange and use a disc with the correct offset with no spacer to the mounting bracket.
I've also got a drawing of the Rover 800 rear discs adaptor plate for the SDI axle.

Thanks again, Dave. I'd be interested to see the Rover 800 bracket since these would be easier to source.
I've seen MGF/Maestro solid discs work with these axles, but with the machining on the disc rather than the drive shaft. Having the TR7 PCD would make that better for fitment too.
I guess it's that old question of how much braking you want based on the use of the car..

I wanted to make sure there was enough - as it's easier to reduce the effort to the rears if needed.
I've not found a disc that would fit without some machining.
Here's the 800 bracket. I have them all as CAD files which will drive a cutter.

I have a narrowed TR7 rear axle in my Minor and it is fitted with disc brakes. I have done two setups, the first one fitted inside 14" wheels and the second one inside 15" wheels. What is yor wheel size ?
I have used VAG calipers, I believe these are from Volkswagen Golf. A basic Girling with 38 mm piston.
My Minor has leaf springs so space is a bit limited but TR 7 is easier to modify. I can send you some pics to show the corversion. Send me PM with your e-mail if you want them.

Hi,
My TR7 V8 has Audi Quattro callipers, mounted using homemade adaptors, Montego / Maestro discs, I had to turn down the ends of the half shafts so they fitted inside. The handbrake cables are Golf Mk 4 with a home made adaptor to fit to the standard lever. A couple of pictures taken during mocking up on a spare casing.
