I used to live in Wexham many moons ago before I moved out to the sticks.
Now I know its an MGB V8 conversion I assume you will want the correct diff ratio. Original V8 rear axles are rare. And the cost to buy a V8 Crown Wheel and pinion is still about £450 I think?
You can convert an 1800 MGB Salisbury axle to V8 specs.
They both use the same axle case and half shafts, but different CW&P + diff carrier.
You can trim some meat off the diff carrier flange and replace the 1800 pinion with a V8 14 tooth pinion. This is not a job for the feint hearted though. And yu will need access to a good machine shop.
Im not sure how much it would end up costing to modify an SD1 axle.
Costs would be:
*Cut and shorten the casing.
*I assume shorten the half shafts and have them re splined ?
*Have the relevant brackets made and welded to the axle case to mount onto the springs.
*Have a propshaft made to suit.
*Not sure what the brakes alterations would be ?
Nige at MGB Hive was doing V8 conversion axles for about £550 last year or so. These were outright purchase, but I think he now wants an exchange unit.
Heathrow Transmissions do a V8 conversion on your old axle if you have one.
Time to do some sums now mate.
I think the easiest option would be to buy a used MGB Salisbury axle and have it converted so it will bolt straight on. I can put you onto a guy in Abingdon who will more than likely have a complete used axle in stock.

If only I had the skills and the MGB had the structural integrity! I've now got two engines so am firmly on the path to RV8.
Its a 78 Rubber bumper roadster in white. It will end up being an old English white Chrome car with dark red leather interior. Somehow though I think its going to take a long time.

I do need an axle, I missed a genuine MGB V8 CW&P on eBay for £165, that would have worked a treat. I can get an SD1 axle easily, they’re on eBay for ~£50 regularly. Are you saying that the guts of an SD1 can be made to work in a MGB Pigs head?
I’ve been ringing around to get quotes on the axle narrowing and it seems to be expensive.

Just across the road in Elmwood is where I was
£165 for an MG V8 CWP set is peanuts. Wish I had seen that one !
I have no idea about the insides of an SD1 axle mate.
What I'm saying is: The cost of getting an SD1 rear end fully fitted and working in an MGB is going to be "way more" than buying an MGB 1800 Salisbury rear axle and having it modified internally so it will bolt straight on.

NO! I moved to Slough from North London Via a few years in Hillingdon.
The Jag IRS is a big chunk of metal mate. And it will need substantial structural metalwork adding to install the thing as I assume you will need to remove the boot floor and the rear seat floor area in order to get new chassis parts welded in and leave access for maintenance of the brakes?
The frontline rear axle 5 link kit is lovely, but expensive as well. What are you wanting from the car? Straight line performance or road / circuit handling?
And what sort of power are you wanting to make from the engine ?
I would reckon that the cost of getting a Jag rear end installed and working to suit the weight of the car is going to be in the region of £2k for parts and materials + the cost of fabrication work and getting it all built?
Unless you expect to be pushing 500hp on sticky tyres with a manual transmission I think the Jag rear end will be overkill.
If you are only talking 200-300hp from the Rover, the Salisbury rear end with stock shafts will be fine as the shafts can be uprated with custom shafts.
Tell us what you final goal is for the car ?

Sorry I missed this reply Perry. I want an every day car to take to shows and for high days and holidays. It's got to be optimised for Road.
The standard 3.9i gives me near 190BHP and thats enough.
From your post you sound as if you're still in Slough, do you know anyone locally that can redrill the halfshaft to change the PCD?
