RV8 into P reg Escort 2 door??

Post by mgbv8 »

My Son has started the job. I've got involved with a 9" grinder and have swapped hubs to opposite sides so steering rods are at the front where we need them. I've trawled the net but have not found another conversion like it yet?

Anybody seen one??

Hi Perry,
did I get this right, you are converting from rack behind the front wheel centre line to rack infront? Just if so you need ot do some more work to sort out the geomatry of the steering.
Best regards

Its was front wheel drive. It will be rear wheel drive. All it needs to do is go in a straight line for short periods :)

Hi Perry
unfortunatly unless you are happy to weld both wheels in the straight ahead position perminantly you are going to need to restore some Acherman effect to the steering, or at least not have it working back to front, Otherwise it will be unstable in roll (even in a straight line) it may be as simple as swapping the sterring arms side to side or turning them over, but a line through the centre lines of the steering arms needs to converge somewhere close to the centre of the rear axel (for rack in front of the axel centre line).
Best regards

Ok this could be daft. but could,nt you use a mk2 escort cross member and make that fit and then use the mk2 steering wrack. I cant remember how the bay looks on a mk3. :? rich

Hi Perry
If you want input from an interfeering know it all give me a shout and I will be over (the grafting of the Mk11 cross member sounds like a good solution. . . your approach seems more fun (as usual!) 8)
BTW if you ever need a random selection of brake discs (new and in pairs) for this project I can bring some over (I could explain :? )
Best regards

Pel- as Mike says I think it's pretty important you get the steering set up pretty good- if the arms dont point to the centre of the rear axle and you touch the steering it could go mega wrong at any speed

Had a search and found mk3 converted to rwd,but they used a cossie engine in it. Front x-member was from a capri as that seemed to fit better and so was steering rack. :) rich
