work as ground to a halt big time.
i set the preload, and turned over by hand ok,
fitted the inlet etc and then primed the oil systemwhen i went to turn over again i noticed it was hard when at full lift thus when i noticed how squashed the valve springs were, it looks as if we may have the wrong springs
im off over to check the ones on the 4.6 heads to see if they have the same coils if so then i need different ones

either i am counting them wrong,
or both heads have the same amount of coils 6.
the 4.6 coils are 0.166 thick
and the stg3 ones 0.168 thick
some thing tells me these aint uprated springs
looks like i am off to RS in the morning for a set of TLR50 uprated springs,
two more head gaskets and another inlet gasket
starting to wonder is it all worth it
Oh the progress before we ground to a halt.
timing cover, with waterpump and oil pump fitted.
and fitted on the engine:

i will check in a min Gav, ta mate.
Right,
got home around 5.30pm from realsteel,
a day wasted bugger all done
the new pushrods need cutting down and the ends pushing in, any one done this ?
as last set of adjustable pushrods i got was already made up.
removed one of the valve springs and offered it up to the new ones,
and yup they are 6 coils, i did count them correctly.
old spring on left new RS ones on right.
head fitted with old springs,
heads fitted with new springs,
what would the best preload setting be?
the card with the lifters says between 20-60
the last lot of lifters i had with the previous piper cam i had set to 45-50

Tony did you have to buy a whole set of pushrods just to replace the one bent one? Thats kind of annoying, I had the same situation a while back. I wanted to buy one adjustable pushrod to use as a measuring tool so I could get my pushrods made up to spec (i'm using solid cam). I couldn't buy just the one either. The annoying thing is in the catalogue they quote the price for the individual pieces of an adjustable rod! If it says in the cat then I think you should be able to buy. Nevermind, I got two adjustable trickflow measuring rods from the states for less than a score all in. I like Real Steel, good guys, good company, but if they dont want to sell parts in ones then dont price them up in ones in the catalogue.

correct marki,
at least every thing is new now, just got back from getting the pushrods shortened and having the new ends pushed in,
while i was there they had a look at the old one that was bent,
and bugger me they straightened it why did i not go there first yesterday instead of racing off to get new ones
never mind got a spare set now that is no use to me

finally got round the garage at around 2.30 pm today
and was pleased with the progress today.
Pushrods shortened and new ends fitted by Neil at Caprisport
One head fitted along with pushrods, other head studs coated in ARP assembly lube,
Both heads fitted, Preload set, oil pump primed and engine turned over by hand to check clearances, and yup we have clearance, then tried on the key and no horrid noises
Inlet fitted and dizzy fitted,
All electrics connected to efi manifold, servo reffited, both manifolds fitted to block and connected back up to main system, engine bolted back onto engine mounts and sat back in crossmember, alternator fitted and fan belt adjusted, radiator refitted.
