Yup i have that special tool too! My engines nearer the bulkhead than yours so i have to turn it 1/8 of a turn then rotate the spanner round and do that again and it completely sucks!

I have one of those Snap on Banana spanners for my rear lower header bolts. still a fookin pain in the proverbial, if I really want to make life complicated as my car used to have a steering box there is a large removable panel where the steering colum goes thru the bulkhead, but it takes forever to take off and refit, so I use the BANANA

I know that feeling, steering column out, floor plate out, engine mounts off take off passenger header. roll engine over and take off drivers side.

Are you cutting the valve reliefs in situ or on a drill press? If your doing it in situ and using a head to guide you in then obviously the cutter must be the same size or bigger than the valves you are using. If it is the same size then perform the operation without a head gasket in place. This way, when you install you heads with the gasket the leading edge of the valves will have a tiny but important clearance with the vertical face of the relief because the gasket thickness lifts it slightly away from the original cut.
