So, a "few" years ago I decided to drop a v8 into my Land Pig.
So an EBay "of course it runs" purchase saw me with an early 10.5:1 3.5, to be fair, it did run although I'm not sure how as no.5 journal was a good mm smaller than all the others.
Move on a "few" years and many more Ebay purchases has me with a complete engine bought in pieces.
It's been interesting and certainly a challenge, but I'm having fun.
This is where I started.
And this is where I am now.

That is a car type front cover I think. If you were able to get a Range Rover one, it lifts the water pump up considerably which might be useful in a Landie.
The whole front end ancillaries change though, so you should get another complete engine to make sure you've got it all!!
Chris.

Yes, it's an SD1 front cover, its needed for the short waterpump as I want to keep the front end stock.
I have about 6 front covers to choose from.

Water pumps are interchangeble
Re: 1970 S2a Land Pig engine debacle
The shortest front end is the one from a P38 Range Rover, but you lose the distributor!
It's what I've done in my Landie.

Or as an alternative you could go with an electric water pump.
I've just installed one on my latest build which is also destined for a Land Rover

Nice lump!
I'm going to stick with the SD1 front end for the time being but, where I go in the future is very open...
