Lexus V8s

Post by Alley Kat »

Does anyone know what sort of money these change hands for, by any chance? Long shot probably as they've got to be rare-ish deals over here.

Seen one for sale at £lots but would be way cheaper to buy a car & strip it out instead.

There was a guy on the NSRA forum who wanted £2.5k for and engine and Supra box and that's the only one I've seen. It didn't sell as I remember. A guy at work has a LS400 on 220k miles, the body is rusting out but he reckons it's still sweet as a nut. Lots of info on www.lextreme.com.

Cheers,

Ian

Cheers Ian, I saw that, interesting as it had the Supra box & bellhousing but lots of squids. Seen a whole car for £600 so might be the best route,
cheers

Even more interesting, as I seen a program on TV, and a manual Supra box doesnt bolt onto the V8.

These guys in Aussie land had to cut and weld the bellhousing to mount a manual box to the V8. The bellhousing bolt patterns must be different.

Didnt Bill mention a while back that he bought a Lexus V8 for buttons ???

Seeing as they go forever...not that many people wanting to buy them.

Bill,

Some more info below. I know some guy is preparing a Lexus V8 for a Healey due to light weight and relatively narrowness. It is rumoured that breakout engines can be bought for $300 US from breakers in Japan.

Let us know if you're going to move on this as it's an intriguing alternative to an LS1 for me. Not much tuning gear though, although they seem to turbocharge well :D :D :D

Cheers,

Ian

Cheers chaps all v.useful. Stevie yes I remembered Bill S's terrific bargain. The NSRA advert one had a Castlemaine rod shop adaptor I think or maybe Dellow.
Ian, it's just an idea at the mo, would like to do something different. Got a second Amazon now, sold the first, and will be measuring up soon when I bring the car over in a few days. Will need a front clip swap most likely, for any V8.
cheers
Bill

They're fantastic bits of kit - forged crank, 32 valve heads, 6 bolt (yup!) mains, will do 8000RPM on the standard bottom end at 260BHP, very tough units.

You can JUST about eek 600BHP from a standard bottom end if the rev limit is kept at a sensible 6000RPM, after that it starts getting expensive again :)

Lots of support for these in Austrailia, I have a good magazine article - I will put it up :)

I've seen some for 100 quid in breakers :) And there's usually one or two on the bay, that go for 250-400.

I wouldn't fancy changing the starter motor on one of those!
