Oh the joys of an F Type

Post by Rossco »

You've all heard me go on about the build quality on the F Type.....

Here's the latest.

I can use my mobile to start the car and have it warm up, so this morning I opened the app and entered the code. That resulted in it telling me that there was a fault and it couldnt start the car. Fault No.1

No.2 Got in the car, started it and it informed me that the pedestrian protection system wasnt working....

No.3 Bluetooth wouldnt connect and stay connected....

Set off

No.4 Informed me that the front left tyre was under pressure....

No.5 Two mins later told me all my tyres were flat....

No.6 Stopped for petrol and when I set off the rear spoiler partially deployed.

No.7 Informed me the boot was open...

No.8 Got home and parked, rear spoiler still deployed even though the car is stationary and it shouldn't deploy until 70mph and return to stowed position below 50mph....

And this is the car that Jaguar tells me is working within normal parameters......

Wow, sounds like you have a rather frustrating visit to the Stealers ahead.
Good luck, mate.
Cheers,

When I had it, my XF twice lit up every warning light and message on the dashboard but carried on driving normally and a sequence of stop/start of the engine finally cleared it all out.

I assume you've done a code read to see if anything shows up? Done a re-boot - battery disconnected for a few minutes. It does sound like a canbus funny. But it probably has the same management as many other cars.

I used to have random failures with my XF. You'd start it up and [insert random function here] would not work, restart the car later and it would be fine... although there was a good chance that [insert different random function here] would then fail.

When I got my first XF, it was reasonably priced and reasonable quality, but in the last 6 years or so JLR have just ramped up the prices and reduced the quality. Last summer I looked at a new XF, the same spec as my original XF, and the price was about £15k more. The LR side of the business is (naturally) the same, with a large number of issues I've heard from many sources on failed Ingenium engines in the Disco Sport and Evoque. Despite being a long term Jaguar fanboy, I can't see myself buying another Jag (baring a classic) for a long time to come. :(
No V8 at present :(

I'd be surprised if Jaguar make any of the electrics themselves. Perhaps they need to lean on their supplier.
