girlfriends peogoet
My girlfriends peugoet broke down tonight. I have only heard the symptoms over the phone haven't seen the car for myself. Am trying to diagnose it over the phone.
It died on her. She said she tried to start it again, it would idle (from what she and her dad say it sounds like its firing on 3 cylinders). When she revs it, it dies and when she puts it under load it dies.
The guy who towed her home said its either a failed plug or coil pack. Doesn't sound like this to me, because it would still be driveable on 3 cylinders. She couldnt get it to move, it just died.
She tried to start it so I couldlisten over the phone and it wouldnt even turn over, just the solenoid clicking in.
Its one of these all singing all dancing ones that changes its own wheel when it has a puncture etc....so is a bit beyond my caveman knowledge.
I thought it might have been the ECU, or maybe a fueling problem until the starter died to. All the rest of the electrics work.
She is a bit challenged with cars, as most erm...erm...members of the fairer sex are so am not really getting a good idea of whats happening because Im not at home.
What do you guys think? I dont even know what the car is. I think its a 206.

Not at all, nothing wrong with minis, except if you're 6'2" like me.
My brothers Midas kit car had a mini engine in it, 286 cam, stage 3 heads... went like fook. Unfortunately he rolled it into a ditch doing 80 into a sharp bend. (erm....whislt innibrieted? anibriated?....whilst drunk) Dad gave him a good b********g which he deserved TBH.
No just meant if she got a nice basic car then I could would have been able to fix the bloody thing but instead she got this thing thats going to cost her god knows how many hundreds/thousands to get fixed because I just dont have the knowledge and equipment to work on modern cars.
It did go through a foot of water the other day apparently. Can't have done it the world of good I dont imagine, but should have been ok.

I thought that until the starter died to. Dont know if thats also under the control of the ECU.ChrisJC wrote:Sounds like fuel starvation - has it got fuel?
Chris.
The gauge says its half full, but I told her to take the cap off and shake the car to listen for fuel but she wasn't strong enough.
Was thinking, if its a coil pack, could that effect the others in some way?

It's a bad earth on the system
AKA a short
Or the Alternator is knackered
So the battery voltage is so low the ECU and fuel pump don't work -originally enuf to let the engine run but not enuf to work properly
It has now drained the battery enough for it not to restart.
Get your multimeter out and test it
Ian

Not at home so I can't test it, up to other people ti fix it for her. And suddenly everyone is an expert on cars so they all tell her stuff.
I think you may be right Ian, because it's completely dead now apparently. Her dad don't have a meter though, or a spare battery so got to wait until tomorrow untill her dad's mate comes.
