Shipping a bucket seat - courier

Post by chodjinn »

I've been trying to get a quote for a courier to ship a bucket seat for me. Parcel2go.com are ridiculously expensive, and parcelmonkey explicitly lists 'car seats' as a restricted item, wtf? Has anyone posted a bucket/car seat before?

With all the Airbags fitted in modern sears (air curtains) and possibly airbags to protect rear passengers I can see why they are restricted goods as the airbag works by a small portion of explosive.

Also parcels are worked out on volume - to take the folume of a box you would need to fit over the seat, in cm and divide by 5000 will give you the volumetric weight

The seat may only be 6 kg but you will be charged for 30 - 45 kg!

Well, full box is 11.5kg, and yes box is quite large but I can get something that size shipped for less than £20 .... problem is they don't allow 'car seats', or a lot of other car related items

How stupid is that!!! Guess I'll have to go on a road trip!

Try
Fiberglass molded product

You are telling the truth and it is just a box with a fiberglass product therein

I'd say another aspect is the same with body panels.

ie people not packaging them properly then the goods get damaged, and the sender or receiver blames everyone except themselves for their own stupidity.

As suggested above, just alter the description slightly

If you know anyone who has a Dangerous Goods Manual you could look up the exact product code for the seat for the shippers. They are assuming the presence of airbags etc and are erring on the side of safety. If you can demonstrate the correct details to them it could change their attitude.
Cheers,
John

I amanged to get it shipped for less than £20 using citylink, described as a fibreglass seat. The guy wrapped it in a shed load of bubble wrap and then shrink wrapped it. Not sure of the make, but it's identical to this but without the logo;
