What's it worth?

Post by plastic orange »

A mate has a 4.6 Range Rover engine which he was going to convert into a coffee table. I asked him what was wrong with it and he said it had a blown head gasket.
I had a quick look over it and the bores don't look steam cleaned, nor do the heads. Rather than waste it on decoration - what do you think it's worth, and does anyone need one?. He's going to send me pics as he's starting to clean it up in preparation
It's number is 46D 12656A - from an auto Range Rover.

It would be a very attractive proposition for upgrade in the TVR community.
Is it a serpentine front?
Is it crossbolted?

I will take it off his hands for a couple hundred quid :)

Yes it's crossbolted - I didn't see a front cover though, but I believe it's from a P38 Rangie.

I see there are quite a few pullout engines on fleabay etc.
A running example can be had for £500-600

I guess your mates in bits is worth £300.
Only problem is finding a buyer ready to travel.
I just googled Broughty Ferry, a little out of the way for most

My mate is near Glasgow - he's building a car for me and I noticed the engine yesterday when I visited. A pallet delivery is only around £50 though.

That is SICK!
I can get a 4.6 motor in South Africa for 1000 Quid and then I have to get it from Johannesburg to Cape Town..... you guys have it so lucky in UK. :( :(
I can't buy one on fleabay and ship it either... as second hand it needs to be approved for import by Customs and the hoops I need to jump through with the Guvment aren't worth the hassle.
Cheers,
John
