No they aren't but if they are finished off properly who would know until the tyre is off.

Ive had a little look on various sites but nothing yet.

We just know the perfect wheels are sat in some guys shed gathering dust

Have a look on Rods n Sods for sale section. I'll try to get the guys number for you. My mate put me onto him a while back. I think he's in Manchester and he has a shed full of old slot mags. He buys them up to sell at swap meets etc.

Well the info I have is that they were banned in the early 90s or at any road an MOT failure. Apologies to all the banded wheel fans.

Hi Marki,

A guy on this forum emailed VOSA and they seemed ok with as long as it does not danger the user or other road users.

Hi
For my 2p worth (I have posted this before), In the late '70s and early '80s sthey were in "fasion" and the local police where I lived at the time (Hampshire) went around stopping anyone with them and did you under the catch all "unsafe parts not to manufacturers' specification' if you had tyres with a tread patch less than 1" smaller than the rim width they did you for "not in MOTable condition" aswell which also got you for no insurance. Several mates got done and it was costly.
To my understanding they are not specifically banned as a part but if it isn't as it left the factory and you do not have an engineers report on it or an MOT pass certificate with the modification noted the police can du you under the unsafe parts.
When I walk down to the station after work I walk past a couple of Garages where a couple of saxo boys who are quite often up the pod work, they have widened steel wheels with "stretched" tyres . . . however they only put them on on the Friday evening before they go to the pod, I suspect they have been stopped and warned off.
Best regards
Mike

Bob does a finish called Via chrome or sommat like that. But when i saw the Silver Sparkle it took me back to the metal flake days in my mind :)

This finish in the sunshine is awsome :)

Thats a good thought Ian. When I get the front rims re done maybe I'll ask Bob to do sparkle on the rims and chrome on the hubs?? Might look very nice eh??

I have of course ordered 4 chrome centre caps with MG logo. Just to maintain originality dont you know

Tyres are on now !!

Not on the Drag Strip mate :)

1970's car..... 1970's look !!

I may even paint the diff red and stick a Hella fog lamp under there for night racing :)

If its going to run 9 seconds on the 1/4 mile it must do it in 70's style !

They look great Pel! As apprentices in the seventies we used to make extra money widening steelies & making lake pipes(side pipes). Come to think of it I still like raised white lettering on tyres but Uniroyal & an umbrella would look poop!

Regards Ged
