Porsche 924 V8 hybrid

Post by larrylamb11 »

Here are some pics of my motor and brief specs. 8) It is based on a 1986 Porsche 924S with a Land Rover 3.5 V8. Originally running a four barrel carb, it is now running later Range Rover Hotwire fuel injection (in preparation for an upgrade to bigger cc) with a full custom tuned stainless exhaust (a true work of art).... The engine is mated to a standard Rover bellhousing then adapted to a standard Porsche Torque Tube, up which runs a custom made propshaft. Hooked up to that is a Porsche 944 Turbo LSD transaxle with external oil cooler, driving Turbo driveshafts that link to the original 924S hubs. For those that don't know, the 924S was the updated version of the 924 which did away with the wheezy LT van engine and 4 stud wheels etc. in favour of the 944 running gear, so they had 5 stud Porsche stud pattern and brakes, bolt in alloy front cross-member and alloy rear trailing arms to name a few of the improvements, along with the 944s 2.5 litre 4 pot motor (still 4 pots short of a proper engine  ). There have been plenty of other mods along the way to make it all work well in harmony including converting the old power steering set up to a manual un-assisted early 944 set up, but the net result is a car that is a HUGE amount of fun :D more than powerful enough to enjoy in its current form with superb handling and a noise to die for...... As with most hybrids, it is an ongoing project constantly being tweaked and improved to get the most out of it and there are still a number of improvements in the pipeline, but the result you see is my weekend toy and occasional daily driver. 8-) 8-)
